Why change your Fascias and Soffits?

Fasica and soffit replacement is done for a number of reasons. A lot of fascias and soffits in Carlisle and Dumfries are still original timber products that require hours of maintenance every few years which if you do it yourself, is time consuming, but if you get a contractor in, it's costly!

Replacing, or covering, your existing fascia and soffits removes the need for annual maintenance, adds extra kerb appeal to your property but can also maintain the shelf life of your roof. If combined with other roofline products, you can improve performance of the guttering and stop the felt perishing and causing water ingress.

Fascia and Soffit Detail

Understand the Terminology

  • Fascia
The fascia board is the long, straight board that runs along the lower edge of the roof. The facsia is fixed directly into the roof trusses and usually does all the work supporting the bottom row of tiles and carries the guttering.
  • Barge Board
This is the board the is used on the gable end of a house. The condition of the barge board can often make or break the look of a house. Over years the products have been developed into some very attractive shapes.
  • Soffit
The soffit board is tucked away under the fascia board. It is usually the board that you see most of from street level. The soffit can be ventilated to allow air flow into the roof area. Alternatively, ventilation can be provided over the top of the fascia board. Without ventilation, condensation will form in the roof both increasing and accelerating the risk of timber decay.
  • Box End
The box end is a work of art in our eyes! It accommodates various different angles, planes and heights of the fascia, soffit and barge board at each corner of the house where the gable end is.
